"Run fast, Piggy! And sleep well! I'll be cutting your throat one of these nights!"
―Rast to a fleeing Samwell Tarly during the Mutiny at Craster's Keep.

Rast was a ranger in the Night's Watch, and a convicted rapist in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. Found guilty of rape somewhere in the Kingdoms, Rast was given a choice of castration or the Wall: Rast chose to take the black. He trained at Castle Black under Ser Alliser Thorne, where he became an enemy of Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly. In the books, Rast does not take part in the Great Ranging, and is left behind by Bowen Marsh to defend Castle Black: he is later killed during the Battle of Castle Black by a Thenn. In the show, he does take part in the Great Ranging, where he is one of the few survivors of the White Walker assault at the Fist of the First Men. Later, at Craster's Keep, he mutinied against Lord Commander Mormont, killing him personally. He remains loyal to Karl Tanner, but flees when Jon Snow leads a raid on the keep to bring the traitors to justice. Whilst wondering alone in the woods, he is ambushed by Ghost and his throat torn out.
