A Direwolf is an unusually larger and more intelligent species of wolf. Able to grow to the size of a human, and much stronger and more intelligent than the normal wolf, direwolves are extinct south of the Wall, likely because they were died out as a result of hunting. The direwolf is the sigil of House Stark.
