Westeros is one of the four known continents in the Known World. As the name implies, it lies to the west of Essos, and northwest of Sothoryos and Ulthos, separated from Essos by the Narrow Sea. Unlike Essos, the majority of Westeros is governed by a single autonomous state known as the Seven Kingdoms, although the far north, beyond the Wall, is lawless and not a part of its territory. To the south of Westeros lie the Summer Isles.
