Queen Daenerys I Targaryen (formal: Queen Daenerys of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name), known pre-appointment as Daenerys Targaryen and also known as Daenerys Stormborn or often by her nickname Dany, is the head of House Targaryen, former/current Queen of Meereen, self-proclaimed Princess of Dragonstone, former Khaleesi of the Great Khal Drogo and self-proclaimed Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Daenerys was born during the last month of a civil war in Westeros, where she then left with her older brother, Viserys, into self-imposed exile in Essos. Seventeen years later, Viserys married her to Khal Drogo to secure an army to retake the Seven Kingdoms, but this backfired when he accidentally gave Daenerys more power, his anger at this leading to his death. In the years following, Daenerys has risen from a Khaleesi of a Dothraki horde to the Queen of Meereen and (in the show's events), to leading a massive army to invade Westeros. She believes herself to be the last hope of House Targaryen, believing the Iron Throne to be hers by right.
